The Ski Trip With Buddies

Come in Out of the Cold and Have a Shot or Two

There is nothing like warming up in front of a fireplace after skiing!

Do You Ski, Snow Board, Toboggan, Ice Skate or Stroll in the Snow?

Or how about taking a sleigh ride, complete with horses, hay and lots of cold noses despite woolen blankets? As we grow into adulthood, we realize that the most fun in these activities comes afterwards.  Sitting around a fireplace or wood stove, chatting about the day usually includes food and alcoholic beverages.

Imagine a cabin alongside the snowy mountain (or big, big hill!). You’re sitting around with your friends and family or colleagues, having fun and enjoying the moment and your return to warmth.

Perhaps you’ve not been vacationing, but shoveling snow. You deserve a break, don’t you think?

Hot toddies are great for such occasions. Here’s a recipe for you:

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 2 fluid ounces boiling water
  • 1 1/2 fluid ounces whiskey
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 slice lemon
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg

Directions for One Mug-Sized Hot Toddy – Mix accordingly

  1. Pour the honey, boiling water, and whiskey into a container. Spice it with the cloves and cinnamon, and put in the slice of lemon. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes so the flavors can mingle, then sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg before serving. Serve in shot glasses for shooters.

Got a cold? These hot toddies won’t cure it, but you’ll feel much happier throwing back a shot or two to warm your spirits. The honey and lemon combination  is good for coating the throat, too. Enjoy. Then plan a vacation to Florida for next year!

Stay warm and safe. Happy holidays.
